OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss head football coach David Cutcliffe was pleased with Thursday morning's workout at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium, as the Rebels prepare to go in full pads for Friday's practice.
"We did a good job of pushing through a lot of soreness," Cutcliffe said. "We are a little sore from not only putting on the shoulder pads yesterday, but all the work we've done. We pushed through it and got better as practice went on. We are going to have to continue to push through it. We are staying out here for a pretty long stretch."
The Rebels practiced out the new AstroPlay surface of Vaught-Hemingway Stadium and worked for two-and-a-half-hours in helmets, shorts and shoulder pads. They concentrated on positional and offensive/defensive work as well as some full-squad drills.
After two days of just shoulder pads, Cutcliffe is looking forward to seeing how the team does when they put on full pads Friday.
"There are a lot of guys who are sore, not just physically, but mentally," Cutcliffe said. "Tomorrow will be the first day in pads, and I am anxious to see how they'll respond."
Senior defensive lineman Jesse Mitchell continued to miss practice with an ulcer on the cornea of his right eye. According to Cutcliffe, Mitchell is listed as day-to-day.
The Rebels continue preseason practice with another single workout Friday morning. Ole Miss will host Meet the Rebels Day on Aug. 16, as players and coaches greet fans and sign autographs in The Grove.
