OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss freshman defensive back Danny Bell of Jacksonville, Fla., has been cleared by the NCAA as a full qualifier and is immediately eligible to participate with the Rebels, it was announced here Thursday by head coach David Cutcliffe.

Bell, a 6-2, 205 pounder, was being held out of practice until final approval by the NCAA. Bell, who participated in Thursday afternoon's practice, was a two-time All-Region selection while playing at Andrew Jackson High and was ranked as the 24th best safety in the nation by one rating system.

The approval of Bell marked the second positive response for Ole Miss from the NCAA this week. It was learned on Monday that freshman defensive end Brandon Jenkins of Memphis, Tenn., had been certified eligible.

Ole Miss (1-1) opens its home schedule here Saturday night at 600, taking on the Louisiana-Monroe Indians (0-2) at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium/Hollingsworth Field.
