Playmaker: Collins Among Best Receivers In Ole Miss History
LOUISIANA-MONROE POSTGAME NOTES
- The Louisiana Indians are wearing white jerseys and gold pants for the first time this season. The Indians opened the season at LSU, which traditionally wears white jerseys at home.
- Louisiana-Monroe loses the coin toss for the first time this season. Ole Miss defers and the Indians elect to receive.
- Shaune Maynard starts at strong safety for the Indians, in place of Damien Richard who started the first two games.
- On ULM's second possession, Mack Vincent catches his first pass for a 10-yard gain. It extends Vincent's streak of consecutive games with a reception to 26.
- Joel Stelly's first punt travels 55 yards and is downed at the Ole Miss three-yard-line. It is Stelly's third of the season of at least 50 yards.
- Steven Jyles' 24-yard scoring pass to Mack Vincent is the 19th scoring pass of Jyles' career and the 11th scoring reception of Vincent's career. It marks the eighth time over the last two seasons Jyles has thrown a TD pass to Vincent.
- The TD pass from Jyles to Vincent midway through the first quarter is the Indians' first first-half score this season.
- ULM came into the game converting just 17 percent (5-of-30) of its third-down opportunities. The Indians convert 3-of-4 in the first quarter tonight.
- Steven Jyles and Eli Manning have very similar stats through the first quarter. Manning is 6-of-7 for 73 yards and one touchdown; Jyles is 6-of-9 for 63 yards and one touchdown.
- Daniel DaPrato comes in for an injured Steven Jyles at quarterback for the Indians in the second quarter. He completes his first pass attempt for a gain of five yards. DaPrato was the Indians' starting quarterback when they opened the season here in Oxford last season.
- Jyles hit Larry Davenport on a 33-yard second-quarter pass play, the Indians' second-longest play of the season (Jyles to Smith for 34 yards at LSU).
- Eli Manning threw for 192 yards vs. the Indians last year. He throws for 238 yards in the first half tonight.
- ULM is outscored 17-0 in the second quarter tonight and has now been outscored 45-0 in the second quarter of the three games this season.
- Daniel DaPrato beings the second half at quarterback for the Indians, replacing an injured Steven Jyles. Jyles was 14-of-21 passing for 160 yards and a touchdown in the first half.
- Tonight's attendance of 50,654 is the 15th-largest crowd to ever see ULM play football. However, it is only the second largest crowd this season, behind the 89,148 that saw the ULM-LSU game at Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge, two weeks ago.
- ULM wide receiver Floyd Smith sets career highs with nine receptions for 128 yards. His previous best in receptions was six at New Mexico State and for yards, 67 vs. Utah State, both recorded last season.
- ULM has now lost nine straight road games. The Indians fall 2-21-1 all-time vs. current SEC teams and 0-4 over the last two seasons.
OLE MISS POSTGAME NOTES
NOTING ELI

- The 353-yard performance was his first 300-yard passing game of the season and the seventh of his career.
- With three TD passes tonight, Manning has thrown at least two TD passes in 17-of-27 career starts.
- Manning now has thrown 60 career TD passes.
- The 353 yards passing marked his fourth 350-yard passing game - a school record - and is the seventh-highest single-game total in Ole Miss history.
- Totaled 358 yards of total offense and surpassed the 7,000-yard mark for his career total offense. Manning now has 7,334 career yards of total offense.
SERIES NOTES
- Tonight's meeting was the second-ever between the two schools.
- Ole Miss has won both meetings, outscoring the Indians 90-17.
- The Rebels defeated the Indians 31-3 last year in Oxford to open the 2002 campaign.
KEY STATS
- Following the 24-yard TD pass from Steven Jyles to Mack Vincent to tie the game at 7-7 in the first quarter, Ole Miss scored 45 unanswered points.
- Ole Miss recorded 612 yards of total offense tonight, the second-highest total in school history and 11 shy of the school single-game record of 623 set against Auburn on Nov. 10, 1951 ... It was also the first time the Rebels have recorded over 600 yards of total offense in a game since totaling 601 against Chattanooga on Nov. 13, 1971.
REBEL NOTEBOOK
- With tonight's 59-14 win, Ole Miss becomes the 30th team in NCAA Division I-A history to record 575 all-time wins. The Rebels' all-time record now stands at 575-426-35 (.571 winning pct.).
- Tonight's game marked the Rebels' first game on the new AstroPlay surface that was installed at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium/Hollingsworth Field this past summer ... It was also Ole Miss' first game in Oxford on artificial turf since beat Vanderbilt 21-14 on Oct. 22, 1983 ... Vaught-Hemingway Stadium had artificial turf from 1970-1983, and the Rebels are now 24-11 (.686 winning pct.) all-time on artificial turf in Oxford.
- Ole Miss is now 24-4 (.857 winning pct.) in home night games since lights were installed at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium prior to the 1990 season ... Ole Miss is 14-0 in home night games versus non-conference opponents.
- The Rebels are now 91-12-5 (.866 winning pct.) all-time in home openers and have won 16 straight home openers since losing 31-10 to Arkansas on Sept. 12, 1987 in Jackson ... Ole Miss is now 68-5-4 (.909 winning pct.) in home openers played in Oxford.
- Ole Miss is now 24-4 (.857 winning pct.) in home night games since lights were installed at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium prior to the 1990 season ... Ole Miss is 14-0 in home night games versus non-conference opponents.
- The Rebels are now 27-1-2 (.917 winning pct.) all-time versus teams that currently compete in the Sun Belt Conference. Ole Miss' only loss against a current SBC team came back in 1915, 10-0 to Arkansas State in Oxford.
OFFENSIVE NOTES
- The Rebels' 225 yards rushing tonight was their highest output since recording 229 yards against Kentucky on September 29, 2001.
- Senior WR Chris Collins extended his streak to 25 straight games with at least one reception after catching nine passes for 121 yards and two TDs. The streak of 25 consecutive games is the second longest known streak in school history behind Willie Green's (1986-1989) 37-game streak.
- Sophomore WR Taye Biddle recorded a career-high 105 yards receiving, teaming with Collins to give Ole Miss its first pair of 100-yard receivers in the same game since LeMay Thomas (130) and Ta'Boris Fisher (109) both went over the 100-yard mark against Vanderbilt in 1995.
- Redshirt freshman RB Jamal Pittman carried on Ole Miss' final 13 plays of the game. Pittman finished with a game-high 75 yards rushing on 13 carries and scored his first career TD on a 1-yard run with 5:01 left in the fourth quarter to cap the evening's scoring.
- Sophomore QB Micheal Spurlock threw his first career TD pass on a 1-yard toss to junior Lorenzo Townsend with 14:56 left in the fourth quarter to make it 52-7 ... Redshirt freshman QB Ethan Flatt also saw his first career action in tonight's game during the fourth quarter.
- Senior RB Ronald McClendon's 20-yard run in the second quarter was the longest by a Rebel this season.
- The 59 points was the most by the Rebels since defeating Southern Illinois 59-3 in 1994 ... It was also the first time Ole Miss topped 50 points since defeating Arkansas State 52-17 last season.
COLLINS TIES CAREER RECEPTIONS MARK: With nine receptions tonight, senior WR Chris Collins tied Grant Heard's (1996-2000) record for career receptions at Ole Miss with 142. Collins entered tonight's game in fourth place at 133. Collins also moved into fourth place on the career list for receiving yards, surpassing Cory Peterson (1996-1999) at 1,842 yards. Collins now has 1,937 yards. The 121 yards receiving tonight also marked his eighth career 100-yard receiving game.
DEFENSIVE NOTES
- The 29 yards rushing allowed by Ole Miss tonight was the fewest since holding Memphis to 18 yards on 42 carries last year on Sept. 7 in Oxford.
- The 45-yard interception return for a TD by sophomore CB Travis Johnson in the third quarter marked the first time a Rebel has returned a pick for a score since Matt Grier returned one 24 yards for what proved to be the game-winning TD in last year's 17-14 upset of No. 6 Florida in Oxford.
- Ole Miss recorded three sacks tonight to extend its streak to 19 straight games with at least one sack.
- The Rebels are now 19-1 under head coach David Cutcliffe when allowing less than 20 points in a game.
SPECIAL TEAMS NOTES
- Junior PK Jonathan Nichols converted on all eight PAT attempts tonight to tie an Ole Miss single-game record for PATs made, set by Tim Montz during the 59-3 win over Southern Illinois in 1994.
- Nichols has now 100 career PATs to become the Ole Miss career leader. He entered the night tied with Bryan Owen (1985-1988) for first place at 92.
- Nichols also made 62 straight PATs to set a new Ole Miss record, breaking the previous mark of 59 set by Steve Lavinghouze (1973-1975).
- With a 30-yard field goal to end the first half, Nichols has now made nine straight field goals since having a 32-yard attempt blocked in the second quarter in last year's Egg Bowl versus Mississippi State.
