Allstate Student Athlete of Week: Britte Hardy

Ask any coach and they will tell you that, in sports, speed provides a tremendous advantage. In collegiate softball, speed helps in so many ways from making outstanding defensive plays in the outfield to causing havoc on the base paths. One player who uses speed to help the Rebels' cause is outfielder Britte Hardy.
Hardy, who is entering her senior year in 2003-04, has definitely been a nemesis for Ole Miss opponents' in the field and on the bases. Down the 2003 stretch run, Hardy, then a junior, proved to be a big part of the Rebels' success. Hardy was moved to the leadoff spot late in the year and responded with a .308 average and 12 runs scored in the final 16 games of the campaign. She tallied a double and a triple in Ole Miss' 10-8 victory over Mississippi State on April 10, helping lead the Rebels to the first series win over their in-state rival since 1999. Hardy also scored the first run of Ole Miss' six-run, game-winning rally against No. 10 nationally-ranked Georgia on April 13.
The Peachtree City, Ga., native has been just as quick of a study in the classroom. Hardy holds a 3.20 grade-point average in Criminal Justice, and has been named to the University of Mississippi Athletic Association (UMAA) Honor Roll five semesters. She is also a member of the Rebel 3.0 Club, which recognizes current student-athletes who have cumulative grade-point averages of 3.0 or better. Hardy is active in the Oxford and University communities through the Ole Miss CHAMPS Life Skills program, reading to schoolchildren at elementary schools and visiting senior citizens centers and the North Mississippi Regional Center.
For excellence in both softball and academics, Britte Hardy is this week's Allstate Insurance Student-Athlete of the Week.
