Volleyball To Take On Southern Miss Tuesday In Hattiesburg

The Ole Miss volleyball team will take on Southern Mississippi Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Hattiesburg. The Lady Rebels (1-9) will be looking for their second win of the season when they take on the Golden Eagles (8-2).
Ole Miss went 1-2 in the Magnolia Tournament this past weekend, defeating Alcorn State 3-0 for its first win of the season. The Lady Rebels lost a close match to Portland, 3-0 with scores of 30-28, 30-25, and 30-27. In the tournament finale, the Lady Rebels led Arkansas-Little Rock 2-1, but the Trojans rallied to win it in five games (3-2). Sophomore middle blocker Rachel Refenes earned her second All-Tournament nod in a row, after making the UIC Invitational All-Tournament team the previous weekend. For the weekend, Refenes totaled 27 kills and 11 blocks.
Southern Mississippi is coming off a second place finish at the U.S. Air Force Academy Invitational. USM defeated McNeese State 3-0 and Navy 3-0 before falling to Air Force 3-1 in the tournament final. The Golden Eagles are led by senior outside hitter Bridget Files, who is averaging 3.97 kills and 3.34 digs per game and also hitting .312. Files also has a team-leading 49 blocks on the season. Senior outside hitter Nicki Tribble is averaging 4.31 kills per game. Junior setter Amy Truong comes in with 411 assists.
Ole Miss leads the series with Southern Mississippi 23-2. The last time the two teams met was back in 2001 with Ole Miss taking a 3-1 win in the Magnolia Invitational. The Golden Eagles' two wins came in 1983 (2-1 at the MUW Invitational) and in 1997 (3-0 at the Southern Mississippi Classic).
