Volleyball Drops Second Match At UIC Invitational To Northwestern

CHICAGO - The Ole Miss volleyball team dropped its second game of the UIC Invitational, a 3-0 (30-17, 30-12, 30-15) decision to Northwestern, who made the NCAA Tournament a year ago. The Lady Rebels will conclude the tournament with Loyola-Chicago at 5 p.m., Saturday.
Northwestern's Erika Lange, a senior, tallied five kills on seven attempts for a .429 clip and junior Jill Buschur recorded four kills on seven attempts for a .429 attack in game one to lead the Wildcats to a 30-17 win. The Wildcats led 7-6, before going on a 9-4 run to make it 16-10. After an Ole Miss timeout, things didn't get any easier for the Lady Rebels, as Northwestern won five of the next six points to go up by 10 (21-11). As a team, the Wildcats hit .400 for the game. Sophomore Rachel Refenes led the Lady Rebels with four kills, and freshman Jennifer McGowan had five digs.
The Wildcats jumped on the Lady Rebels early in game two and never let up, winning 30-12. Lange totaled 10 kills on 13 attempts for a .615 percentage to lead Northwestern. She also had three digs and four block assists in the win. Junior Elena Garcia led Ole Miss with five kills and two digs.
Game three was more of the same, as the Wildcats built a commanding 14-2 lead, when Ole Miss called timeout. They went on to win 30-15.
Northwestern hit .438 for the match, while Ole Miss finished at just .093. Lange led Northwestern with a total of 15 kills on 22 attempts and hit .455 for the match. Sophomore Christie Gardner finished with 11 kills on 18 attempts and hit .444 for the match.
Garcia and Refenes each had six kills to lead Ole Miss. McGowan finished with nine digs for the match to lead the Lady Rebels.
