Freshman forward Armintie Price led four Lady Rebels in double-figures with 22 points, but it was not enough as Arkansas came-from-behind to nip Ole Miss, collecting a 67-61 win on Sunday afternoon.
"We played really well in the first half," said Ole Miss head coach Carol Ross. "In this league winning the first half is not enough, you have to play the whole game. I thought we did not come out with the same intensity in the second half. Give Arkansas credit, they hung around and made their move at the right time."
Ole Miss jumped out to their largest lead at the 10:22 mark in the first half at 20-7. Price scored 10 of the 20 points for the Lady Rebels and senior guard Genice Terry posted eight points during the run.
Arkansas fought back, cutting the Ole Miss lead to three points with just under two minutes remaining in the half behind nine points from All-American candidate Shameka Christon. Ole Miss scored the last six points of the half to head to the break with a 33-26 lead.
The two teams traded baskets to open the second frame. Behind six points from Price, the Lady Rebels pulled out to a 12 point lead at 47-35 with 14:05 remaining in the game. Christon and the Lady Razorbacks then went to work. Christon, who scored 15 second-half points led Arkansas on a 16-3 run over the next 10 minutes, giving Arkansas their first lead since the opening minutes of the game.
Ole Miss did not fold, as junior guard Carletta Brown hit two three-point baskets to keep the Lady Rebels in a seesaw battle with the Lady Backs. With Ole Miss leading 59-58, junior center Amber Watts picked up her fifth foul sending Christon to the line for two free throws. Christon nailed both foul shots. Ole Miss missed a shot on the ensuing possession and was forced to foul. Arkansas made 7-of-8 free throws down the stretch to forge the 67-61 victory.
Price led Ole Miss with 22 points and 11 rebounds, her seventh double-double of the season. She also three steals and one assists. Watts finished the game with 12 points and three blocks. Terry and Brown both notched 10 points on the afternoon. Brown dished out six assists to lead Ole Miss and also collected three steals. Terry handed out four assists and grabbed one steal.
Christon led all scorers with 24 points. Rochelle Vaughn scored 14 points and dished out four assists for the Lady Razorbacks, while Kristin Moore finished with 10 rebounds and five assists.
Ole Miss connected on 46.3 percent of their shots from the field, hitting 25-of-54 shots on the day. They made just 7-of-15 free throws and controlled 31 rebounds. Ole Miss out-scored Arkansas 42-16 in the paint.
Arkansas made 19-of-46 shots from the field, good for 41.3 percent. They made 8-of-18 from beyond the arc and 21-of-24 from the charity stripe. They had 29 rebounds.
Ole Miss will return to action on Thursday, Jan. 15, when they travel to Tuscaloosa, Ala., to take on Alabama. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
