Rebel Netters Advance To Second Round At SEC Indoors

ATHENS, Ga. - Ole Miss had four players make the second round at the SEC Indoor Championships at the Lindsey Hopkins Indoor Courts Friday, but as of press time, only one had completed his second round match.
Freshman Fredirk Aarum won his first match against Rahim Esmail of Kentucky, 6-4, 6-1. In the second round, he lost a tough three-setter to one of the nation's top players Hamid Mirzadeh. Mirzadeh came in seeded No. 5 and is Florida's top player. After splitting sets, Mirzadeh hung on to win a third-set tiebreaker and take the match 6-2, 2-6, 7-6(5).
Senior Paul Ciorascu, ranked No. 70 in the nation and seeded No. 16 in the tourney, downed Alex Hume of Kentucky 6-3, 6-2 in the first round and was set to face Tom Eklund of South Carolina in the second round.
Both senior Claes Lindholm and junior Catalin Gard received first round byes and neither had even gone on court for the second round match before press time.
Freshman Erik Claesson won both his qualifying matches to get to the main draw, where he lost in the first round to UK's Tigran Martirosyan. Sophomore Juan Pablo Di Cesare had to withdraw from the tournament before beginning play.
