ATLANTA, Ga. - SEC-TV, Fox Sports Net's live, weekly Southeastern Conference studio program, continues on - Thursday, 1/15 - at 6:30 p.m. EST (re-airs on Friday, 1/16 at 1 a.m.). Cory Kessler hosts this week's show, in for regular host Dave Neal, who calls the SEC women's basketball game (Vanderbilt at Tennessee, 7 p.m. FSN) immediately following the program. The live, half-hour show originates from FSN's Atlanta studio. Kessler is the host of FSN's weekly recruiting series COUNTDOWN TO SIGNING DAY.
Neal (play-by-play) checks in live via satellite from Knoxville, Tenn., to preview the game and provide updates on all the happenings in SEC women's basketball, including the Lady Vols jump from No. 5 to No. 2 in this week's AP poll.
Thursday's show features a reunion of FSN women's basketball analyst Van Chancellor and three of his former players who are all a part of the Ole Miss women's coaching staff - Carol Ross (head coach), Peggie Gillom (associate head coach) and Renee Ladner (assistant head coach). The trio fondly reminisces about their playing days under Chancellor, who coached 19 seasons at the school (1978-97), and they discuss the future of the program. Chancellor is the Lady Rebels' all-time winningest coach (439-154, .740) and is currently the head coach of the WNBA's Houston Comets.
Also on Thursday's show, SEC-TV basketball reporter Jenn Hildreth spotlights Auburn women's basketball player Nicole Louden. A junior starting point guard, Louden is the subject of a book written about her life when she was in high school - "She's Got Handle, The Story of Nicole Louden's Triumph Through Inner-City Basketball." Louden leads the Tigers in steals (34) and assists (64) and is coming off a career-best scoring night, when she poured in 17 points in a victory over then No. 11 Georgia 72-54. Auburn (13-4, 1-2 SEC) is No. 22 in this week's AP poll.
Thursday's "Homecourt Presented by BC Powder" is Ole Miss's C.M. "Tad" Smith Coliseum. The arena was renamed in 1972, for the legendary Ole Miss athlete, coach and athletic director. Affectionately known as the "Tad Pad," the facility has become one of the nation's toughest places for opponents to play. Entering this season, the Lady Rebels have compiled a 295-67 (.815 percentage) record, and in the 90's, they posted an impressive 93-19 (.830) mark. The Rebels, meanwhile, have won 101 of their last 116 games at home (.871), and own a all-time record of 334-162 (.673).
Other SEC-TV highlights for Thursday include - (1) "Speed Read" tackles the up-to-the-minute happenings around the 12-member SEC family; (2) the "BC Powder Quick Question of the Week" queries conference men's and women's head coaches - What kind of pet(s) do you have?"; (3) the Advance Auto Parts Player of the Week - which this week goes to Georgia men's basketball player Rashad Wright.
