Women's Tennis Nets Two Victories In Doubleheader Saturday

OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss women's tennis team netted two 5-2 wins over Tennessee-Chattanooga and Troy State Saturday at the Gillom Sports Center to improve to 3-0 on the season.
In the nightcap against Troy State (0-1), the Lady Rebels won the doubles point to take a 1-0 advantage in the match. Chloe Carlotti and Virginia Tomatis beat Carolina Aravena and Luisa Lopez 8-4 at No. 1 doubles, and then Sabrina Peppl and Audra Adams came back to defeat Tsitsi Masviba and Christina Mancheno 9-7 at the No. 2 position to clinch the point.
arlotti cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 win over TSU's Lopez at the top spot to give Ole Miss a 2-0 lead. She went 4-0 on the day in singles and doubles to improve her record to 6-0 since joining the Lady Rebels.
Peppl got the Lady Rebels to within one point of winning the match (3-0) as she downed Masviba 6-1, 6-3 at No. 3 singles. Troy State earned its first point when Aravena defeated Lady Rebel Karem Harboe 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2 singles.
Florencia Basile dominated Trojan Suzanne Jones 6-2, 6-1 at No. 5 singles to clinch the victory for the Lady Rebels and go 4-0 on the day. Tomatis made it 5-1 Lady Rebels when she finished off TSU's Mancheno 6-3, 6-1 at No. 4 singles. She also went 4-0 on the day. Troy State's Laura Alarcon defeated Adams 6-4, 7-5 at No. 6 singles for the Trojan's other point.
In the morning match against Tennessee-Chattanooga (1-1), the Lady Rebels took the early 1-0 lead by sweeping the doubles. Carlotti made it 2-0 Ole Miss when she defeated Lady Moc Cynthia Oulevay 6-4, 6-4 at No. 1 singles. Basile gave the Lady Rebels a 3-0 lead with a 7-6(7), 6-4 win over UTC's Saskia Van Velze at No. 3 singles.
The Lady Mocs got on the board when Charlotte Goude came back to beat Peppl 6-7(12), 6-1, 6-1 at the No. 2 spot. Lady Rebel Tomatis clinched the victory by holding off UTC's Catherine Allen 7-6, 5-7, 6-1 at the No. 4 position.
Freshman Emily Ladyman a native of Memphis, was victorious in her first ever dual match for the Lady Rebels, taking out Bethany Everett 7-5, 6-3 at No. 6 singles.
"It was a long day, but we came away with two wins," head coach Mark Beyers said. "I have to give credit to the teams we played. They came in here and played hard and made us work for it. This will help us down the road. We saw some good things, and we saw some things we need to work on. I am proud of the team for fighting hard during both matches and finding a way to get the job done."
The Lady Rebels return to the courts next weekend as they travel to face Kansas State and Kansas on the road.
