Ole Miss' Conerly, Cochran Advance At MTSU Invitational

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Ole Miss women's tennis players Claire Conerly and Carlin Cochran advanced to the third round of their respective draws Friday at the Middle Tennessee Fall Invitational and teamed up to post a win in doubles.
In Flight B Singles, Cochran, a freshman from Dublin, Ga., cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 win over Jeanne de Wet of Tennessee-Martin in the first round. Cochran followed up that match by handing Tennessee-Chattanooga's Kristie Wilson a 6-2, 6-2 defeat. She will face Gulsah Esen of UAB in the semifinals Saturday.
Conerly, a sophomore from Alexandria, La., continued her winning ways by posting two convincing wins Friday in Flight C singles. In the first round, Conerly defeated Christina Wiesser of Memphis, 6-2, 6-1. In the second round she downed Emily Harpe of Tennessee-Chattanooga, 6-0, 6-1. Conerly, who will face Emily Vest of Middle Tennessee in the semis, is now 4-1 on the season, including winning the Red Draw at the Ole Miss Fall Classic.
In Flight A doubles, Cochran and Conerly dominated Ieva Bulcus and Ilze Rozentale of Western Kentucky, 8-1 in the first round. The Reb pair will play Marlene Dirnstorfer and Brooke Cowie of Memphis in the quarterfinals, Saturday.
