OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss head coach Joe Getzin announced the signing of Rachel Kieckhaefer to a national letter of intent to play volleyball for the Lady Rebels beginning with the 2005-06 academic year on Tuesday.

Kieckhaefer, a 5-11 setter, is the first signee for the Lady Rebel program this year.

"We are very excited about adding Rachel Kieckhaefer to our program," Getzin said. "She comes from an excellent club team with a high level of competition in the Milwaukee Sting. We add great size at the setter position with her in the lineup and we look for a bright future from Rachel."

Kieckhaefer has played five years of club volleyball with the Milwaukee Sting, a team that finished third at the National Junior Olympics at the 15-year old level, and took second place at the National Junior Olympics with her at the 16-year old level.

The Hartford, Wisc., native has attended Waterford Luther Prep where she has competed for Carolynn Bertolus and lettered four times. She also earned two letters in basketball.

In her four years at Waterford Luther Prep, Kieckhaefer has been named Team MVP three times and earned First Team All-Conference honors three times as well. She also was named the Parkland Conference Player of the Year her senior season and was named Honorable Mention All-State. She served as the team captain her senior year in a season that saw her notch 423 kills, 336 assists, 43 aces and 68 blocks.

Kieckhaefer is also expected to provide a big boost to the program off the court as well, as she earned high honors in her four years at Waterford Luther Prep as well as being named a four-time recipient of the Student Achiever Award. In her free time, she has also tutored young children with learning disabilities.
