Mark Johnson Named Assistant Men's Golf Coach

OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss head men's golf coach Ernest Ross has recommended the hiring of Mark"Mark has one of the most unique set of skills that you will find in college golf," Ross said. "He is organized, hard working and will be able to tackle a variety of tasks for us. He has a great personality and people of all ages enjoy being around him.

"Mark also has very good technical knowledge of the game. His experience with junior golfers should be helpful in our recruiting efforts here at Ole Miss. We are very happy that Mark has decided to join the Rebel golf program and look forward to working with him next month."

A native of Greenville, Miss., Johnson has spent the last two years as an information technology specialist for the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Alexandria, Va.

From 1994-2003, Johnson was employed at various locations in Jackson, Miss. His last stop was at SmartSynch, where he was a technical analyst from 2001-03. Prior to that, Johnson assumed the role of software engineer for Venton from 2000-01 and contractual consultant for Greenover Managers from 1999-2000.

Johnson's professional relationship with Ross dates back to 1994, when he was hired at the Country Club of Jackson. Johnson served as a golf instructor and golf shop assistant from 1994-98, while Ross was the country club's head professional.

Johnson graduated from Ole Miss in 1999 with a bachelor's degree in computer science and Millsaps College in 2001 with a master's degree in business administration.

"I'm really looking forward to being back at Ole Miss and being back with Ernest (Ross)," Johnson said. "I have known Ernest since I was in high school and had a great working relationship with him at the Country Club of Jackson. I have always had a great deal of respect for him and know that he did a great job with the program in the fall.

"I look at this as an opportunity I just couldn't pass up. Ernest and I always use to follow the Rebel golf program when we were working together in Jackson. I'm really excited about becoming a part of a program that I have always followed."
