Nicole Mahan To Join Ole Miss Volleyball Program In 2005

OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss head volleyball coach announced the signing of Nicole Mahan to a national letter of intent on Friday to play volleyball with the Lady Rebels beginning with the 2005 academic year.
Mahan, a 5-11 outside hitter, is a four-year letter winner at Amarillo High School in Amarillo, Texas. She also lettered a season in basketball as a freshman.
"We are very excited about the signing of Nicole to join our program next season," said Ole Miss head coach Joe Getzin. "She has a level of experience that could allow her to step in immediately. Her experience in indoor and outdoor volleyball can hopefully help her step in and help us quickly. She is an outstanding young athlete who brings a lot to the table for us. We look forward to getting her on the court as a part of our program."
In her four year career at Amarillo High School, Mahan served as varsity team captain for her junior and senior campaigns, helping lead her squad to the Regional Semi-Finals or better in 2002, 2003 and 2004. She also was a part of the 2001 State Championship team her freshman season.
Mahan garnered several individual awards for her efforts on the court in a career that saw her tally 949 kills and 1,079 digs at Amarillo High.
The outside hitter was named to the All-District Second Team in 2002, and was the recipient of the Coaches 110 percent award. She was named the Lonestarvolleyball.com Player to Watch and Outstanding Hitter as a junior. She also was named the District II - 5A Most Valuable Player and earned spots on the TGCA and TSWA All-State teams in a season that saw her named MVP of her team and the Amarillo Globe Super Team First Team.
As a senior, Mahan was named to the All-Tournament Team at the Allen Tournament and the Pearland Memorial Volleyball Classic. She again earned All-District First Team honors, and was named to the TGCA All-State Team. Mahan was recently named to the TGCA All-Star team as well. She was named to PrepVolleyball.com's Top 250 seniors.
Mahan has tallied seven years of club experience with the Amarillo JO's and qualified for nationals six times.
In the classroom, Mahan has been a prime example of a true student-athlete. The senior earned the Lamar Lively Leadership award as well as the Superintendent Scholars Award. She is a member of the National Honor Society and was a member of the National Society of High School Scholars' Who's Who Among American High School Students. Mahan also boasts a GPA of 4.0
Mahan is the second signee of the fall for Ole Miss.
