OXFORD, Miss. - Emily Jones, an outside hitter from Copley, Ohio, has signed a national letter of intent to play volleyball with the Ole Miss volleyball program beginning in the 2005 academic year, head coach Joe Getzin announced on Monday.

"Emily is a great athlete with a lot of talent," Getzin said. "She brings a lot to the court for us and can provide an immediate impact for us in the upcoming season. Emily has great leaping ability and we expect big things out of her as she grows with the program."

Jones lettered four-years in volleyball under Jan Cavanaugh at Copley High School. She also earned three letters in basketball and track and field.

The 5-10 athlete earned First Team All-League and All-District honors in 2002, 2003 and 2004. She was also named 2004 District Player of the Year in 2004. The Cleveland Plain Dealer named Jones to the First Team in 2002 and 2004, while naming her Player of the Year in 2004. The Akron Beacon Journal named Jones to its First Team in 2003 and 2004 and also named Jones its Player of the Year in 2004.

Jones was named to the All-Ohio Third team in 2004 as she set a school record for kills with 369 in her senior season. She helped lead her team to the Suburban League Championship in 2003, and the District and Regional Championship in 2004. She helped her team advance to the state Final Four in 2004 as well.

The Copley native also brings a solid amount of club success to the court with her, as Jones competed four seasons with the Nova Juniors.

Jones also made noise on the track, as she set the school record for a high jump in track at 5 feet 8 inches. During her high school career, Jones took third place in the state high jump in 2002 before finishing fourth in the same event a year later. She also finished sixth in the state long jump in 2003. She was also named All-Ohio in track in 2003 and 2004.

Academics were also a strong point for Jones, who earned the District Scholar Athlete Award and the Suburban League Scholar Athlete Award for her excellence in the classroom.

Jones will be eligible to compete for the Lady Rebels beginning in the 2005 academic season. She is the third signee for the Lady Rebel volleyball team in the early signing period.
