Men's Golf Finishes Sixth In New Orleans

NEW ORLEANS, La. - The Ole Miss men's golf team finished sixth out of nine teams at the 2004 Nokia Sugar Bowl/Tulane Invitational. After firing rounds of 294 and 302 at the English Turn Golf and Country Club Monday, the Rebels shot a 306 Tuesday to finish with a score of 902 for the two-day affair.
SMU won the 54-hole invite with a score of 868, while Wake Forest placed second (870) and Tulane finished third (885). Southeastern Louisiana and Alabama tied for fourth place with scores of 892, while UAB (904), Southern Mississippi (906) and New Orleans (925) finished behind Ole Miss.
Redshirt freshman Chris Rogers led the Rebels with a 13th-place finish (69-79-76=224), while junior David Shields turned in a 20th-place effort (79-71-77=227). Freshman Kyle Ellis (74-77-78=229) and junior Jarrod Gardner (79-75-75=229) tied for 26th place overall, while junior Ryan Michals placed 42nd (72-83-80=235).
Ole Miss returns to action Feb. 23-24, with the Beau Chene Collegiate in Mandeville, La.
