OXFORD, Miss. - The 31st-ranked Ole Miss women's tennis team, off to its best start (6-0) since 1999, travels to Waco, Texas this weekend to face 35th-ranked Baylor at 12 p.m., at the Baylor Tennis Center.
The Lady Rebels are coming off a 5-2 win over then 18th-ranked South Alabama last Saturday. Ole Miss dominated in doubles play and then won at Nos. 1, 2, 5 and 6 in singles. Junior Chloe Carlotti leads the team with a 5-1 record at No. 1 singles. She has also teamed with sophomore Virginia Tomatis for a 6-0 mark at No. 1 doubles.
Freshman Emily Ladyman of Memphis, Tenn., is 4-0 at No. 6 singles and has won seven of her last eight dating back to the fall. Senior Florencia Basile is undefeated in singles this spring, posting a 6-0 ledger.
Baylor is off to an 0-4 start, but all four losses have come against teams ranked in the top 15. The Bears dropped their season-opener 7-0, to No. 6 ranked Vanderbilt. They have since lost to No. 10 Duke, No. 2 Georgia and No. 13 Clemson. This will be the home opener for Baylor. The Bears are led by a freshman at the top spot, Carolin Walter. Walter defeated the nation's No. 9 ranked player in the loss to Clemson.
This will be the third meeting between Ole Miss and Baylor. The Lady Rebels are 2-0 against the Bears, including last year's 4-3 win in Oxford.
