Stephen Head Earns SEC Player Of The Week Honors

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Ole Miss sophomore 1B/LHP Stephen Head was named the Southeastern Conference Player of the Week, the SEC office announced Monday, following his performance in Ole Miss' three-game sweep of South Alabama last weekend.
Head went 8-for-12 with one home run and nine RBIs at the plate against South Alabama. He also recorded four doubles to recorded a 1.250 slugging percentage and drew three walks, including two intentionally.
In Friday's 7-3 win over the Jaguars, Head went 3-for-5 with four RBIs, including three doubles. He became the first Rebel player to record three doubles in one game since Jason Huisman against South Carolina on April 5, 1998. He also worked an inning of scoreless relief to close out Friday's win.
In Saturday's 7-5 victory, Head was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and drew two intentional walks. On Sunday, Head went 3-for-4 and hit a three-run home run in the first inning of the Rebels' 13-11 win. He also scored three runs and recorded his fourth double of the series. In addition, Head worked two scoreless innings of relief to close out the game and earn his second save of the year. He struck out five of the six batters he faced, including striking out the side in the ninth.
"Stephen had an outstanding weekend for the second straight week," said Ole Miss head coach Mike Bianco. "We're obviously very proud that he has won the SEC Player of the Week honor, and he is certainly a big reason why we are 6-0 right now."
Head currently leads the Rebels in batting average (.440), doubles (4), home runs (3), RBIs (17), slugging percentage (.69) and on-base average (.517). He has recorded two saves and has struck out seven in 4 1/3 innings over three relief appearances.
