Lady Rebels Fall To No. 2 Georgia 7-0

ATHENS, Ga. - The 37th-ranked Ole Miss women's tennis team fell to No. 2 ranked Georgia, 7-0 after the match was moved indoors due to a high wind advisory. The Lady Rebels dropped to 9-7 overall and 1-5 in the SEC, while the Bulldogs (14-1) have won 10 straight and remain undefeated in the SEC.
Ole Miss fell behind early after Georgia won the doubles point. Georgia claimed an 8-1 victory at No. 2 doubles and then secured the point with a close 9-7 win on court three. The highlight of the day came when OM's Chloe Carlotti and Virginia Tomatis teamed to knock off the nation's fourth-ranked team of Agata Cioroch and Shadisha Robinson, 8-6 at No. 1 doubles.
Georgia took a 2-0 lead as Lady Rebel Karem Harboe retired due to injury in the first set with 10th-ranked Robinson leading 4-0. Ole Miss' Florencia Basile dropped her second consecutive match at No. 5 singles, falling to Georgia' Natalie Frazier, 6-0, 6-2 to make it 3-0 Georgia.
Carlotti, ranked No. 75 in the nation, lost her match at No. 1 singles to Cioroch, who is ranked No. 4 in singles, as Georgia clinched the victory. Cioroch had previously lost to Ole Miss the last two years at No. 1 singles.
Tomatis won her first set on court four against Jitka Schonfeldova, but the Bulldog would rally to win 1-6, 6-1, 7-5. The Bulldogs also found victories at No. 3 and No. 6 singles as No. 70 Evgenia Subbotina topped Lady Rebel Sabrina Peppl, 6-3, 6-4, and Douglas Wink beat OM freshman Emily Ladyman, 6-2, 6-3.
The Lady Rebels will return home to host LSU and Arkansas this weekend at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center.
