LSU Hands Women's Tennis 4-3 Loss

OXFORD, Miss. - The 25th-ranked LSU Lady Tigers handed the 58th-ranked Ole Miss women's tennis team a 4-3 loss at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center Friday. With the loss, the Lady Rebels drop to 9-8 overall and 1-6 in the SEC, while LSU improves to 10-6 and 2-5.
The Lady Rebels fell behind 1-0 after LSU won the doubles point. The Lady Tigers claimed an 8-4 win at No. 3 doubles, handing Karem Harboe and Florencia Basile only their third loss of the season. Ole Miss' Chloe Carlotti and Virginia Tomatis, ranked No. 36 in the nation, defeated Rocio Fantilli and Lauren Seaman, 8-4, at the top spot to improve to 11-4. LSU held off the Lady Rebels, 8-5, at No. 2 after Audra Adams and Sabrina Peppl fought back from two breaks.
In singles, LSU gained points at Nos. 6 and 5 to take a 3-0 lead. Freshman Emily Ladyman lost to Daysi Espinal, 7-5, 6-0 on court six, and then Tomatis fell to Lauren Seaman in two close sets, 7-5, 6-4, on court five.
LSU clinched the win, when Marina Chiarelli finished off Lady Rebel Sabrina Peppl, 6-4, 6-4. Peppl held a 4-1 lead in the first set, before Chiarelli rallied to win the set.
Ole Miss got its first singles point when Basile split sets with Lady Tiger Amanda Mang. Mang won the first set, 6-3 and then Basile took the second, 6-3. After LSU clinched the match at No.3 singles, Mang retired as Basile improved to 12-4 in dual matches.
The Lady Rebels claimed the top two courts for the final 4-3 score. Carlotti, ranked No. 53 in the nation, came back to beat 62nd-ranked Ferguson, 6-7, 6-3, 1-0(7) at No. 1 singles. Harboe finished off Fantilli, 6-0, 7-5 at No. 2 singles.
Ole Miss will host Arkansas Sunday at 1 p.m.
