Plyler And Canale Lead Ole Miss At LSU Relays

BATON ROUGE, La. - Junior Brandie Plyler and senior Brett Canale each set personal bests to lead Ole Miss at the LSU Relays on Saturday. Plyler set a new Ole Miss record in the pole vault by clearing 12-3.5 en route to a first place finish. Canale also took home first place with his toss of 182-4 in the hammer throw.

"Brandie has been training really hard," said Ole Miss head coach Joe Walker. "We knew she was capable of clearing 12 feet, we just didn't know when it would happen. I am really proud of her and expect her to keep breaking her own record."

Ole Miss junior Brandon Atkinson recorded an NCAA Regional qualifying mark with his personal best mark of 53-0. Atkinson placed second with his mark on Saturday. Fellow junior Shantel Glass placed second in the long jump with his mark of 23-11.5. Junior Demondrick Shumaker placed second in the 400 meters with his time of 47.36.

Sophomore Kristi Stillwell took home second place in the hammer throw with her toss of 149-2, while sophomore Rachel Ellison finished third in the 800 meters with her regional qualifying time of 2:10.15. The Rebel 4x400-meter relay team also posted a regional qualifying time of 3:09.79.

Ole Miss will head to Austin, Texas next weekend for the Texas Relays. Events are slated to begin on Thursday and last through Sunday.
