Rebel Golfers At Par After Day One Of Herb Wimberly

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The Ole Miss men's golf team is tied with Louisiana-Monroe for fourth place after day one of the 14-team Herb Wimberly Invitational. The Rebels fired a 291-285--576 Monday, while the Indians turned in scores of 283-293--576. Both teams are even after two rounds, while three schools are below par.
Wichita State leads the pack at 23 strokes under through Monday's action (280-273--553), while Lamar University is second at 17 under (278-281--559) and the host Aggies occupy third place at 11 under (281-284--565).
New Mexico (6th, 584), Arizona (T-7th, 588), San Francisco (T-7th, 588), Arkansas-Little Rock (9th, 591), New Mexico State JV (T-10th, 596), Santa Clara (T-10th, 596), Utah Valley State (12th, 598), Western New Mexico (13th, 606) and Northern Colorado (14th, 622) all trail the Rebels after day one.
Ole Miss was led by a career-best round of 69 from redshirt freshman Callum Macaulay. Macaulay, who is knotted in a three-way tie for fifth place (-5) heading into Tuesday's final round, posted a 70 to finish the day with a total of 139. Senior Pope Spruiell is in a two-way tie for ninth overall at three under with a 69-72--141. True freshman Kyle Ellis places 27th in the field at three over after recording a 76-71--147.
The field returns to NMSU's University Golf Course at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday for day two of the 54-hole affair.
