OXFORD, Miss. - The 27th-ranked Ole Miss women's tennis team will step out of conference play to host Middle Tennessee Wednesday at 1 p.m., at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center.
The Lady Rebels come into the match with a 7-5 overall record. The team picked up its first conference win on the season and snapped a five-match losing streak with a 5-2 victory over Auburn on Sunday. Florencia Basile won her match to improve to 10-2 in dual matches and 3-1 in the SEC. She has won 10 of her last 12 matches. Freshman Emily Ladyman snapped a four-match losing skid with her straight set win over Auburn's Nancy Peaden at No. 6 singles.
Middle Tennessee enters the match with a 7-2 record. They are coming off a 5-1 win over Murray State last Friday. The Lady Raiders were scheduled to play Georgia State on Sunday, but the match was postponed. In the win over Murray State, senior Manon Kruse who is 9-0 at No. 1 singles and ranked No. 50 in the nation, became the all-time leader in career victories at Middle Tennessee. Kruse teamed with Stacy Varnell in 2002 to become the first doubles team in school history to make the NCAA Doubles Championship.
"We are glad to be back on the winning side," head coach Mark Beyers said. "Hopefully we can begin a new streak. Middle Tennessee has a good team. They have a very good No.1 player and they beat Mississippi State 4-3 earlier this year."
Following the MT match, the Lady Rebels will welcome The University of New Orleans on Sunday at Noon.
