OXFORD, Miss. - Chad Pilcher, a member of the Ole Miss football and baseball teams, has been inducted to Phi Beta Kappa, the nation's oldest and most prestigious undergraduate honors organization. Ceremonies were held Friday afternoon at the Ford Center on the University of Mississippi campus.

Pilcher joins former women's golfer Elizabeth Hoffman, who became the first student-athlete to be inducted into the academic honorary in 2002, and senior football player Ben Boatright, who was inducted last year.

"We are extremely pleased that another one of our student-athletes has been inducted to the most prestigious organization in our country," Senior Associate Athletics Director Lynnette Johnson said. "This demonstrates that you can achieve a high level of success on the field and in the classroom."

Pilcher, a senior from West Monroe, La., received the prestigious Taylor Medal for the School of Business, in ceremonies held Thursday night in conjunction with Honors Day. An Economics major, Pilcher is a member of the Chancellor's Honor Roll, Who's Who Among American Universities, Omicron Delta Kappa, Golden Key Honor Society, Phi Kappa Phi, Lambda Sigma, Alpha Lambda Delta and the National Dean's List. He was nominated for the 2004 Boyd McWhorter SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award.

The Rebels made the NCAA Regional field in 2001 and 2003 in baseball and have participated in three bowl games at Ole Miss - SBC Cotton, Independence and Music City Bowls.

Phi Beta Kappa, founded in 1776 at the College of William & Mary, pursues a mission of fostering and recognizing excellence in the liberal arts and sciences. Members include six of the current Supreme Court Justices, presidents Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton and George Bush.
