Georgia Holds Down No. 6 Ole Miss Again

ATHENS, Ga. - Freshman right fielder Joey Side and sophomore left fielder Bobby Felmy both hit home runs as Georgia defeated No. 6 Ole Miss 9-4 Saturday afternoon in front of 3,012 at Foley Field, and securing the series win in this weekend's three-game Southeastern Conference series. The Bulldogs won Friday's series opener 7-3 and will look for the sweep when the two teams complete the series Sunday afternoon at 12 p.m. (CDT).
The loss was the Rebels' fourth straight and dropped them to 31-10 overall and 11-6 in the SEC. Georgia improved to 25-15 and 8-9 in the conference.
Side gave Georgia a 1-0 lead in the second inning with a solo home run off starter Eric Fowler, his fifth of the season. Felmy hit his fourth homer of the year with a two-run shot to cap a four-run fourth inning and give the Bulldogs a 5-0 lead.
Georgia then scored a run in the fifth and three in the seventh build a 9-0 advantage.
Sophomore right-hander Michael Hyle (4-1) carried a shutout into the eighth inning before Stephen Head drove home the Rebels' first run with an RBI single to score Chris Coghlan. Hyle finished allowing four runs on 10 hits and one walk, while striking out three in 7 2/3 innings before giving way to sophomore right-hander Mitchell Boggs.
Fowler (3-1) was charged with the loss, allowing six runs on five hits and two walks, while striking out four over 4 2/3 innings.
Head and junior catcher Barry Gunther both recorded three hits on the afternoon as the Rebels out-hit the Bulldogs 11-9.
Felmy and Josh Morris both had two hits each for Georgia.
Sophomore left-hander Brae Wright (6-1, 2.61 ERA) is slated to start on the mound for the Rebels in Sunday's series finale, while senior left-hander Paul Lubrano (3-3, 4.27 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Bulldogs.
