OXFORD, Miss. - Sophomore first baseman Stephen Head went 3-for-5 with two RBIs and No. 5 (Collegiate Baseball) Ole Miss used a three-run sixth inning to defeat Memphis 7-3 in a non-conference baseball game Tuesday evening, in front of 3,016 at Oxford-University Stadium/Swayze Field.

With the win, the Rebels (25-4) sweep the two-game season series from the Tigers (14-12). Ole Miss pounded Memphis 19-0 at AutoZone Park back on March 17.

After Bill Moss' RBI single gave Memphis a 3-2 lead in the top of the sixth, the Rebels scratched out four hits in the bottom of the inning to regain the lead. Brian Pettway drew a lead-off walk and advanced to third on Stephen Gostkowski's throwing error on a pickoff attempt. Junior center fielder Miles Franklin then doubled down the right field line to score Pettway and tie the game at 3-3.

Three batters later, Head and junior right fielder Seth Smith followed with back-to-back RBI singles to cap the inning and make it 5-3.

Ole Miss picked up two insurance runs in the eighth on Head's RBI double and Chris Coghlan's RBI single.

Sophomore right-hander Anthony Cupps (2-0), the second of four Rebel pitchers on the evening, earned the win in relief. Cupps allowed three runs on five hits and three walks, while striking out one in three innings of relief.

Sophomore left-hander Matt Maloney followed with two innings of scoreless relief and senior right-hander Jeremy Zick closed out the ninth.

Senior right-hander Zach Cook (1-2) suffered the loss in relief for the Tigers, allowing two runs on three hits 2/3 of an inning of relief.

The Rebels out-hit the Tigers 12-9 on the evening. Senior shortstop Matt Tolbert went 2-for-4 and Smith was also 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Moss finished 2-of-4 for Memphis.

Ole Miss will return to action Friday evening when the Rebels open a three-game Southeastern Conference series with the Auburn Tigers. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m., at Oxford-University Stadium/Swayze Field.
