OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss will host two tournaments in addition to eight Southeastern Conference home matches as part of its 27 match schedule for the 2004 season, head coach Joe Getzin announced on Tuesday.

Ole Miss will host the Magnolia Invitational and the Rebel Classic in September, as well as Southeastern Conference foes Auburn, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, LSU, South Carolina, Tennessee and arch-rival Mississippi State.

The Rebels will also feature a home date with regional rival Memphis this season.

"We're really excited about this fall after a successful spring season," said Getzin. "We have upgraded our level of competition for the 2004 schedule. We have a home slate of matches that should be very exciting for our fans and our program. We are approaching this season with a lot of enthusiasm."

The Rebels are hoping to use a solid spring season as a springboard into the fall season and continue the success that began last season with upsets of LSU and season sweeps of Mississippi State and Auburn. If the Rebels can do that, they are looking at a trip to the Southeastern Conference Championships in November for the first time since the 2000 season.

Ole Miss will open the 2004 season on the road at UAB before returning home to host the Magnolia Invitational in conjunction with the Rebels' home opener in football against Memphis. The volleyball Rebels will face Baylor, Morehead State and Eastern Michigan in the tournament that will take place throughout the weekend.

It's off to the Lonestar State next for Ole Miss, as the Rebels will travel to Texas State for a weekend tournament that will feature Texas State, San Diego State and James Madison.

The Rebels will then return home for the Rebel Classic the weekend of Sept. 18 as a part of the Vanderbilt football weekend. Ole Miss will face-off against Jacksonville State, Louisiana-Lafayette and Illinois-Chicago in the Rebel Classic.

Ole Miss will hit the road for a final tune-up at Arkansas State in a showdown with the Indians on Sept. 21, before jumping into Southeastern Conference play that weekend.

The Rebels open conference play with four straight matches on the road, with back-to-back weekend trips. Ole Miss will travel to Tennessee (Sept. 24) and South Carolina (Sept. 26) the first weekend of play before hitting the road for Arkansas (Oct. 1) and LSU (Oct. 3) the next weekend.

The Vols and Gamecocks return the favor with a weekend showdown in Oxford before the Rebels once again hit the road for a mid-week match-up at Mississippi State (Oct. 13) and a weekend trip to Kentucky (Oct. 17).

The Rebels will then close out the season with seven of nine matches at home, including: Memphis (Oct. 19), Auburn (Oct. 22), Alabama (Oct. 24), Florida (Oct. 29) and Georgia (Oct. 31), Mississippi State (Nov. 10) and LSU (Nov. 14).

The University of Florida Lady Gators will serve as the hosts for the Southeastern Conference Championships in the 2004 season. The top eight teams in the conference advance to the tournament with play being held Nov. 19-21.

Admission to all home volleyball matches is free to the public.
