OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss women's tennis team's season officially came to an end Tuesday, as Chloe Carlotti and Virginia Tomatis lost in the first round of the NCAA Doubles Championship at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.
The pair, who earned All-SEC honors this season, dropped a 6-3, 6-4 decision to Manon Kruse and Carien Venter of Middle Tennessee. It was the second time for Carlotti and Kruse to fall to the MT pair this season, as they also lost (8-6) in the Lady Rebels' dual match win over Middle Tennessee.
While the doubles are played to an eight-game pro set in regular season and postseason play, in the NCAA Doubles Championships, matches are played best two out of three sets.
Carlotti, a two-time All-American, and Tomatis, ended the year with a 14-7 overall record. They went 8-3 in the SEC at No. 1 doubles. Both will be returning next year for the Lady Rebels, who lose four seniors from this year's squad.
NCAA DOUBLES CHAMPIONSHIPS - Athens, Ga. First round - Manon Kruse/Carien Venter (MT) def. Chloe Carlotti/Virginia Tomatis (OM) 6-3, 6-4.
