OXFORD, Miss. - One day after the disappointment of not earning an invitation to the NCAA Team Championships, the Ole Miss women's tennis team received some good news Thursday, as Chloe Carlotti and Virginia Tomatis were selected to the NCAA Individual Championships in singles and doubles.
Carlotti, a two-time All-American, is making her third appearance in the NCAA Singles Championship. She qualified as a freshman at Fresno State and then mad it again last year. Ranked No. 63 in singles, Carlotti posted a 12-9 record at No. 1 singles in her first year in the SEC.
Tomatis will be making her first NCAA appearance as she and Carlotti compete in the doubles championship. The pair earned All-SEC second team honors after going 8-3 in the league at No. 1 doubles. They are currently ranked No. 34 with a 14-5 record at the top spot.
"To make the NCAAs is a great honor for Chloe and Vicki," head coach Mark Beyers said. "There are so many great players in college tennis, so it is an accomplishment for them to be among such an exclusive group. When you play at the No. 1 position in the SEC and post the record they did, you've done something. They worked hard to earn this, and we are proud of them. Hopefully we can go to Athens and do well in the tournament."
The individual championships begin on May 24 following the conclusion of the team competition at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Ga.
