Armintie Price Named Rookie Of The Year By Gballmag.com

ITHACA, N.Y. - Ole Miss rising sophomore women's basketball player Armintie Price was recently named Gballmag.com Rookie of the Year for her efforts during the 2003-04 basketball season. Price, who helped guide Ole Miss back to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in eight years, also earned a spot on the Gballmag.com Young All-America Team.
Price, 5-9 guard, led the Lady Rebels in scoring (14.9), rebounding (9.4), steals (2.5) and field goal percentage (.561) per game as a freshman. She was named SEC Freshman of the Year (coaches), SEC Newcomer of the Year (AP), Second Team All-SEC (coaches, AP) and SEC All-Freshman Team (coaches) earlier this spring.
Price, a native of Blue Mountain, Miss., notched 14 double-doubles on the season and scored a season-high 32 points against Tennessee on Feb. 22. She led the Lady Rebels in scoring on 12 occasions and in rebounding 19 times. She took over the top spot on the Ole Miss freshman scoring and rebounding charts with 462 points and 291 rebounds, respectively in her rookie campaign.
Price was joined in being honored by Gballmag.com, by Duke senior Alana Beard as 2004 Player of the Year and Houston head coach Joe Curl as 2004 Coach of the Year. Beard headlined the list of First Team All-Americas awarded by the website. She was joined by senior Diana Taurasi (Connecticut) senior Kelly Mazzante (Penn State), senior Nicole Powell (Stanford) and senior Nicole Ohlde (Kansas State).
Named to the Gballmag.com second team were senior Shereka Wright (Purdue), senior Lindsay Whalen (Minnesota), sophomore Seimone Augustus (LSU), senior Chandi Jones (Houston) and junior Shyra Ely (Tennessee).
Price was joined on the Young All-America Team by Meg Bulger (West Virginia), Jessica Davenport (Ohio State), Jessica Dickson (South Florida), Katie Gearlds (Purdue), Janese Hardrick (Georgia), Tiffany Jackson (Texas), Camille Little (North Carolina), Noelle Quinn (Southern California) and Alesha Robertson (Texas Tech).
Ole Miss concluded the 2003-04 season with a 17-14 overall record, including a 7-7 mark in Southeastern Conference action under first-year head coach Carol Ross. The Lady Rebels fell to Villanova, 66-63, in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
