OXFORD, Miss. - The heat was turned up at practice on Tuesday as the Ole Miss football team saw a break from the unseasonably cool weather of a week ago and went through a warm workout in pads on Tuesday.
"This was the first real heat we've had and I think we responded to it ok," said Ole Miss head coach David Cutcliffe. "I'd like to see us pick our energy up a little bit more than we did today."
On Tuesday, the Rebels continued to work on the mental preparations of the game, working in positions for the early part of practice before coming together at the end of the day to work in groups with the offense facing off against the defense.
The squad also worked on overtime drills and special teams to close out the day, as the coaches worked to cover as many possible game-time scenarios as possible.
The Rebels will return to the twice-a-day format on Wednesday with a practice at 8:30 a.m. and a scrimmage on Wednesday afternoon in Vaught-Hemingway Stadium during the afternoon practice.
"Tomorrow (Wednesday) is a big day for us," Cutcliffe said of the two-a-day practice. "We'll do mostly mental work in the morning and then we'll be full speed in the stadium tomorrow afternoon. I hope to get back some of the guys we have been missing, but we won't know who is available until we get in Wednesday morning."
Ole Miss will continue to work practice throughout the week, with activities culminating in the annual Meet the Rebels Day to be held on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. in the Grove.
