OXFORD, Miss. -

Box Score

Elizabeth Cansdale came up big for Ole Miss (14-5, 4-2 SEC) in the clutch, hitting three three-point baskets in three minutes on her way to a career-high 24 points, as the Lady Rebels defeated Mississippi State (14-5, 3-3 SEC) by a score of 72-64 on Thursday night at Tad Smith Coliseum.

Cansdale led all scorers with 24 points, while Carletta Brown added 18 points and Armintie Price put in 16 points. Amber Watts led all players in rebounds with 11.

"It was a great game," said Ole Miss head coach Carol Ross. "We made some crucial errors in the first half, but we just rebounded in the second half and kept our focus and got the crowd involved. We played a much better second half.

"We got a lot of help from our crowd," Ross said. "It feels great to give them a win over our in-state rival. It's important that our home crowd, the Ole Miss fans, realize how much of a role they played in this win. They kept our girls focused even when they seemed to be down."

The Lady Rebels fell behind the Bulldogs early, but stormed back to tie the game at nine in a first half battle that saw the score and momentum swing back and forth between teams. Ole Miss looked to hold the edge heading into halftime, but Docieda Warren hit a basket with one second left on the clock to put Mississippi State up 34-33 at the break.

Ole Miss fought back in the second half, opening with a five-point run to take the lead 38-34, but the Bulldogs would again fight back to take a two-point lead off a three from Rebecca Kates to go up 42-40. The Lady Rebels responded with a trey from Brown, and it was all Ole Miss from there as the Lady Rebels grabbed the win.

Tan White led Mississippi State with 16 points, while Tiana Burns put up 12 points and Mamie McKinney added 11 points. Blessing Chekwa turned in a 10-point performance for the Bulldogs.

"It's very frustrating," said Mississippi State head coach Sharon Fanning. "Everything was going our way in the first half. It was frustrating coming out in the second half and not guarding hard or playing hard. We have to play hard and patiently for 40 minutes, and we just didn't get it done."

The Lady Rebels shot 49 percent from the floor while holding the Bulldogs to 39 percent shooting on the night. Ole Miss also out-rebounded Mississippi State 43-31.

Next up for Ole Miss is a date with the Arkansas Lady Razorbacks, as the Lady Rebels will travel to Fayetteville, Ark., for a Sunday afternoon match-up. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. Ole Miss claimed the first meeting between the schools on Jan. 9, in Oxford earlier this season.
