OXFORD, Miss. - New Ole Miss head football coach Ed Orgeron Thursday announced his football coaching staff for the 2005 season.

Orgeron, who became the University of Mississippi's 35th head football coach on December 16 when he succeeded David Cutcliffe, comes to Ole Miss after fulfilling his duties as assistant head coach, defensive line coach, and recruiting coordinator at Southern California, which defeated Oklahoma 55-19 Tuesday night in the Orange Bowl to claim the national championship.

"I'm excited about this staff," Orgeron said. "Each of these men brings something different to the table and this group represents a blend of experience and youth. They all have great energy, are strong recruiters, and are outstanding teachers. It was evident to me during this hiring process that they are excited about being at Ole Miss. That's important."

Orgeron, who will also serve as defensive coordinator, has selected Noel Mazzone as his offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, George DeLeone as offensive line coach, Matt Lubick as wide receivers coach, Matt Luke as tight ends coach, Frank Wilson as running backs coach, Shawn Slocum as assistant head coach and defensive backs coach, Charlie Camp as linebackers coach, Joe Cullen as defensive line coach, and Dennis Slutak as the special teams coordinator. Luke is the only on-the-field coach retained by Orgeron from Cutcliffe's staff.

Beginning with Orgeron's 20 years, his first Ole Miss staff represents more than 150 years of coaching experience on either the professional, collegiate or high school level.

Having coached for 25 seasons, including 24 on the collegiate level, Mazzone is making a return trip to Ole Miss. He served as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach during Tommy Tuberville's four years (1995-98) at the helm of the Rebel football program. Mazzone has been offensive coordinator and tight ends coach at North Carolina State the last two years. He also has coached at Oregon State, Auburn, Minnesota, Texas Christian, Colorado State, and New Mexico.

DeLeone, who has coached 34 years on the collegiate level and one season in the NFL (San Diego, 1997), was the associate head coach and offensive line coach this past season at Syracuse. With the exception of that one season with the Chargers in 1997, he coached at Syracuse from 1985 to 2004. Prior to going to Syracuse the first time, DeLeone also coached at Holy Cross, Rutgers, and Southern Connecticut.

Lubick joins the Ole Miss staff after spending the last four seasons as wide receivers coach and recruiting coordinator at Colorado State. He has also coached at Oregon State, San Jose State, and California State University-Northridge, giving him 11 years of coaching experience, including his first two years (1994-95) as a student assistant at Colorado State.

A former player at Ole Miss, Luke served the last three years on Cutcliffe's Rebel staff as tight ends coach and assistant offensive line coach. Prior to returning to Ole Miss in 2002, he coached two seasons at Murray State. After serving as co-captain of the 1998 Ole Miss team, Luke got his first coaching experience by serving as a student assistant in 1999 when he worked with the Rebel centers and guards.

Wilson comes to Ole Miss after serving since September of 2003 as Director of Athletics of the New Orleans, La., Public School System. He served three seasons as head football coach at O. Perry Walker High School in New Orleans and three years as an assistant at Edna Karr High School, also in New Orleans, and was a student assistant at his alma mater, Nicholls State University, in 1996 as he worked with the running backs.

Slocum is returning to the coaching profession after spending the last two years in private business as president and owner of a custom home building and commercial development company. He has 14 years of coaching Division I football, including 11 seasons at Texas A&M, one year at Pittsburgh, and two years as Southern California.

Camp joins the Rebel staff after two years as linebackers coach at Oregon State. Other collegiate coaching experience has been at Arizona, San Diego State, and Idaho, and he also coached one year at Sahuarita (Arizona) High School. Camp also served summer internships with the National Football League San Diego Chargers (2001) and Miami Dolphins (2000).

Cullen, a 15-year veteran of the collegiate coaching ranks, comes to Ole Miss after serving the last three seasons at Indiana University. He was the defensive line coach his first two years with the Hoosiers before taking on defensive coordinator responsibilities prior to the 2004 campaign. Other coaching stops during his coaching career have been at his alma mater Massachusetts, Richmond, LSU, and Memphis.

Slutak has just finished his second season at USC as a graduate assistant working with the special teams. He also spent two years as a graduate assistant at North Carolina State and three seasons as an assistant coach at Lehigh, and five years coaching on the high school level.
