Women's Tennis Players Fall At ITA South Regional

ATHENS, Ga. - The Ole Miss women's tennis team had a tough day at the ITA South Regional Championships Friday, at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.
Junior Ilona Somers, ranked No. 100 in the nation, lost a tough third round match in the Flight "A" singles to Lyndsay Shosho of Georgia Tech. After winning the first set 6-4, Somers dropped the second 6-0. The decisive set went to a tiebreaker, which Shosho won 7-4 to advance.
In the Flight "A" singles consolation, senior Virginia Tomatis defeated Sherry Price of Southern Mississippi, 6-2, 6-2.
Doubles began Friday, and Ole Miss lost two of their three opening round matches. Merry Ellen Henry and Preethi Subramanian dropped an 8-4 decision to Claudia Strauss and Annabelle Bares of Troy. The Rebels' top team of Somers and Tomatis fell to Alabama's Mari Muller and Shelley Godwin, in a tight match, 9-7. Freshman Ksenia Tokarieva and sophomore Carlin Cochran defeated Nikkita Fountain and Daca Jovanovic of Florida International, 8-3 in the first round, before falling to Kelley Hyndman and Link Leskosky of Georgia in the second round, 8-4.

Somers/Tomatis (OM) 9-7; Ksenia Tokarieva/Carlin Cochran (OM) def. Nikkita Fountain/Daca Jovanovic (FIU) 8-3. Second round - Kelley Hyndman/Link Leskosky (UGA) def. Tokarieva/Cochran (OM) 8-4.
