Lady Rebel Netter Falls In June Stewart Invitational Final

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Ole Miss women's tennis sophomore Preethi Subramanian appeared on her way to capturing the Tom Boysen Draw at the June Stewart Invitational, but saw her opponent, Arizona State's Roxanne Clarke, rally to win in three sets.
Subramanian won the first set 7-6(3) and was up 4-1 in the second, before Clarke begin her comeback. Clarke would go on to claim the second set 7-5 and the third 6-2 for the win.
"Preethi played a great match, but the other girl played great too," assistant coach Whitt Taber said. "She (Clarke) played some great tennis in the second and third sets and came up with some big shots."
In the doubles, Ole Miss' team of Nika Koukhartchouk and Ksenia Tokarieva finished the tournament with a 3-1 record after knocking off Vanderbilt's top team of Taka Bertrand and Amanda Fish, ranked No. 20 in the nation, 8-6. After racing out to a 3-0 lead, the Commodore duo rallied, before Koukhartchouk and Tokarieva finished the deal.
In other singles action Sunday, senior Virginia Tomatis defeated Wisconsin's Kaylan Caiati, 6-1, 6-3 to finish the weekend with a 2-1 record in singles, with her only loss coming to 41st-ranked Bertrand. On Friday, she posted a huge three-set win over 37th-ranked Sabrina Capannola of Arizona State. Freshman Merry Ellen Henry defeated Lexi Goldin of Wisconsin, 6-4, 6-3 to post her first singles win of the tournament.
The Lady Rebels will be off until Nov. 3 when they conclude the fall with the SEC Coaches Classic in Peachtree City, Ga.
