Ole Miss Rifle Off To Fast Start

Oxford, Miss. - The Ole Miss Rebel rifle team is off to a fast start under tenth year head coach Valerie Booth.
At the Ole Miss Invitational, which concluded over the weekend, the Rebels set new school marks in the team air rifle (2334) and team smallbore (2303). Those records propelled Ole Miss to a second place overall finish behind Murray State.
"I am extremely excited about our start this season," said Boothe, the only head coach in Ole Miss rifle history. "We set new school records in the team air rifle and smallbore. Getting off to such a phenomenal start just raises expectations for the rest of the season."
Junior All-American Jennifer Lorenzen (Memphis, Tenn.) and senior Samantha Leach (Orlando, Fla.) each tied Lorenzen's individual smallbore mark (582), set last season.
The Rebels placed three members in the top ten of the individual air rifle and two in the top ten of the individual smallbore.
Ole Miss also competed at the Tiger Invitational, hosted by the University of Memphis, on September 22. In spilt squad competition, Ole Miss placed third and seventh overall in the final team results.
The Ole Miss red squad claimed the team smallbore championship, with a score of 2300, and placed four members in the top ten of the individual smallbore results.
The red squad was lead by sophomore Shannon Wilson (Fairfax Station, Va.), whose smallbore score of 578 placed her third among shooters.
Next up for Ole Miss, the Rebels travel to Cookville, Tenn. to face Tennessee Tech, on October 22.
