KINGSTON, R.I. -

Box Score

The Ole Miss women's basketball team collected its first loss of the season after falling, 60-49, to Villanova on Friday afternoon in the first round of the University of Rhode Island Classic. Ole Miss will face Brown on Saturday in the consolation game on Saturday at 11 a.m. (CT).

Villanova's Jackie Adamshick scored the first basket of the game knocking down a three-pointer a minute and a half into action. The three points would be the first of 19 in the half for the junior forward. Ole Miss got on the board on the following possession with a lay-up by Jada Mincy, but would not score again for three minutes as the Wildcats mounted a 10-4 lead.

Villanova connected on 56 percent of its shots in the first half, posting as much as an 11-point lead mid-way through the period. Ole Miss made a come-back in the latter moments of the first half, cutting the lead to one on a Carla Bartee triple with four minutes remaining. Ole Miss headed into the break trailing 32-27.

The Ole Miss defense was able to cool off the Wildcats in the second frame, but Villanova dominated the backboards, gaining possession time and time again. VU won the rebounding battle 44-33.

Lady Rebel senior guard Ashley Johnson knocked down two free throws to open the second half scoring for both teams, cutting the VU lead to three. That's as close as the game would get. Villanova's Liad Suez-Karni would pick up where Adamshick left off in the first period as she scored 16 second half points and kept Ole Miss at a distance by hitting shots with time running out on the shot clock and knocking down free throws.

Junior guard Armintie Price struggled from the field, going 6-of-20, but still managed to pour in a team-leading 14 points. Price pulled down 11 rebounds before fouling out with two minutes in the game. Price also led Ole Miss with three steals and two assists.

Sophomore guard Tasi Worsham scored a career-high nine points and sophomore forward Carla Bartee added seven. Freshman Shawn Goff scored six points and junior guard Ashley Awkward notched five.

Brown was a 75-71 loser to the host Rams in the first game of the day. BU was led by senior Colleen Kelly with 18 points and junior Ashley King-Bischoff with 17 points.
