Lady Rebel Netters Advance At SEC Coaches Classic

PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. - Four members of the Ole Miss women's tennis team are still alive in the main draw of their respective flights at the SEC Fall Coaches Classic, as play continued Friday at the Peachtree Tennis Center.
In the "A" Division, sophomore Nika Koukhartchouk, who has battled an ankle injury for most of the fall, posted a huge win over Mississippi State's Anastasia Kugakolova in the first round of singles. After dropping the first set 6-3, Koukhartchouk rallied to win the second set 6-1. She dug herself a 3-0 hole in the third set, but won six straight games to advance to the quarterfinals.
Freshman Ksenia Tokarieva cruised to a 6-3, 6-2 win over Vanderbilt's top newcomer, Maggie Yahner, in the first round of the "B" Division. With the win, Tokarieva improved to 7-2 on the year.
"We are extremely happy to have Ksenia and Nika in the final eight of an SEC individual championship," head coach Mark Beyers said. "Nika is definitely not 100 percent health-wise, so for her to come back and win that match was great. Ksenia beat one of Vanderbilt's top freshmen and she is playing really well this fall."
In the "D" Division, Sarah Sabin and Claire Conerly won their first round matches to advance to the semifinals.
In the "A" doubles semifinals, Ilona Somers and Virginia Tomatis lost a hard-fought match to Tennessee's Samantha Orlin and Melissa Schaub 9-8(5).
