The Ole Miss Lady Rebels (6-1) forced 27 turnovers on their way to a 71-52 defeat of the UAB Blazers (1-4) Saturday afternoon at the Tad Smith Coliseum. Ole Miss logged three players in double figures on their way to their third-straight victory.

"We didn't play necessarily well, but we played hard," said head coach Carol Ross. "It was not a great game, but it was a great win. I'm glad we can head into finals next week with some success."

Junior guard Armintie Price led the way for Ole Miss with 16 points and added seven rebounds, despite missing most of the first half after two early fouls. Senior guard Ashley Johnson and junior guard Ashley Awkward each added 12 points for the Lady Rebels, who managed the win despite making only 2-of-18 from beyond the three-point line.

It was defense that dominated the day for Ole Miss as Price grabbed four steals on the afternoon, and Awkward and Jada Mincy each notched three, and the team amassed 16 steals for the game.

The Lady Rebels out-rebounded the Blazers 45-38, with Mincy leading the effort with 10 boards, her second consecutive double-digit rebounding game.

Ole Miss took control early with a 22-4 run to begin the contest and did not look back. The Lady Rebels had a 36-17 halftime lead, despite Price, Ole Miss' leading scorer and rebounder, not playing after the 15:49 mark of the opening frame.

UAB cut the lead to 13 points at 54-41 at the 7:38 mark in the second period, but the Lady Rebels again pulled away to get to the 19-point final margin.

The 16 points for Price gives her a double-digit scoring effort in each of the Lady Rebels' seven games this season. She may have scored more, but struggled to a 4-for-14 mark from the charity stripe. Overall she has scored in double figures in 17-straight games and 59-of-67 in her career.

All 12 players on the Ole Miss roster got in the scoring column in the win with sophomore forward Carla Bartee posting eight points and freshman center Shawn Goff, senior guard LaTanya Jones and Mincy each putting in four points.

UAB was led by Lakitha Murray with 13 points and Crystal McFadden with 12. Christon Ingram pulled down a team-leading seven rebounds for the Blazers and McFadden added six of her own.

Ole Miss will take a break from game action as they take final exams during the next week. Upon returning from the break the Lady Rebels will host #6/7 Rutgers on Wednesday, Dec. 14. Tip-off against the highly-ranked Scarlet Knights is slated for 7 p.m. in Tad Smith Coliseum.

"This will be a big week of multi-tasking for all of us," said Mincy, as her team prepares for the mental challenges of finals and facing Rutgers. "While we are on the court we will be focused solely on basketball and the new things we will be implementing. Once we are off the court we can only think of our exams and studying."

The game versus Rutgers will be titled "Tickled Pink In The Tad Pad" as the Lady Rebels encourage fans to help fight breast cancer. The first 500 fans at the game will be given pink ribbons to wear in honor of those fighting the deadly disease. Players from both teams will also being wearing the pink ribbons. Additionally, the first 250 fans in attendance will be awarded a "Think Pink" thermos. All proceeds raised at the game will benefit the Baptist Center for Breast Health and the American Cancer Society's "Reach to Recovery" program.
