OXFORD, Miss. - The 59th-ranked Ole Miss women's tennis team will host Troy University Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center. Incase of inclement weather, the match will be played indoors at the Gillom Sports Center.
The Lady Rebels have won two in a row and come into the match with a 5-2 record. They shutout Murray State 7-0 at home last week and then downed Middle Tennessee 6-1 on the road Sunday.
Chloe Carlotti continues to lead the Lady Rebels. She won her seventh match in a row against Middle Tennessee and has won nine of her last 10. The two-time All-American owns a 14-4 overall record, 7-0 at No. 1 singles. The new individual computer rankings came out Tuesday, and Carlotti is ranked No. 34 in singles.
While Carlotti owns a 7-0 record at No. 1 singles, she is not alone at the top. Sophomore Ilona Somers is 6-1 at the No. 2 position, and junior Virginia Tomatis owns a 5-1 record at No. 3 singles for a combined total of 18-2 at the top three spots in the lineup.
Also in the individual rankings, freshman Nika Koukhartchouk is ranked No. 94 in singles with a 10-7 overall record, 3-2 in dual matches. In doubles, Carlotti and Tomatis are ranked No. 53 with a 12-4 overall record, 6-1 at the No. 1 position.
This week's match will be the final tuneup for the Lady Rebels before they face SEC competition next weekend.
Troy owns a 2-2 record and played West Florida Tuesday afternoon. The Trojans are led by junior Tsitsi Masviba and freshman Claudia Strauss. The Lady Rebels defeated Troy 5-2 last year in Oxford.
