Ole Miss Picked To Finish Second In The SEC West

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Ole Miss was picked to finish second in the Southeastern Conference's West Division in the 14th annual preseason SEC poll, as voted on by the league's 12 head coaches.

The Rebels were picked to finish behind LSU, who are also the favorites to capture the 2005 SEC title. Arkansas is picked to finish third in the SEC West, behind Ole Miss, followed by Mississippi State, Alabama and Auburn.

South Carolina was tabbed as the favorite to win the SEC East, following by Georgia, Florida, Vanderbilt, Tennessee and Kentucky.

The Rebels finished tied for second in the SEC West with LSU last season. Ole Miss went 18-12 in conference play to set a new school record for SEC wins in a season.

Overall, Ole Miss went 39-21 and earned its third NCAA Tournament berth in four years under head coach Mike Bianco. The Rebels are scheduled to open the 2005 campaign on Tuesday, Feb. 15 when they host Arkansas State at 3 p.m., at Oxford-University Stadium/Swayze Field.
