OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss women's tennis team, powered by the play of its top three players, downed Kansas 6-1 Friday afternoon at the Gillom Sports Center. With the win, the Lady Rebels improved to 2-1 on the season as they get set to host Kansas State Sunday at Noon.

Ole Miss, now 4-1 against Kansas, got on the board first by winning the doubles point. The All-SEC duo of Chloe Carlotti and Virginia Tomatis dominated KU's Lauren Hommell and Elizaveta Avdeeva, 8-1 at the top spot to improve to 9-3 overall. They have now won six of their last seven matches. Ilona Somers and Mimi Renaudin teamed up at No. 2 doubles to record an 8-2 win over Brittany Brown and Ashley Filberth.

Carlotti, ranked No. 32 in the nation, won her 10th match of the year when she cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 victory against Avdeeva at the top spot to put the Lady Rebels up 2-0. Somers downed Christina Skoda 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2 singles to make it 3-0 Ole Miss.

Tomatis defeated Kansas' Brown 6-3, 7-5 at No. 3 singles to clinch the match. She has now won five in a row and six of her last seven.

"We are happy to get a win against a Big 12 opponent," head coach Mark Beyers said. "We set the tone early in doubles and continued with our top three in singles. Chloe and Ilona played great, Vicki did a great job of getting the second set to clinch the match.

Renaudin got down 4-2 in the first set against KU's Hommell, but rallied, dropping only one more game the rest of the way to win 6-4, 6-1 at No. 4 singles.

Kansas got it's only point of the day, when Filberth rallied to beat Lady Rebel freshman Carlin Cochran in a third set supertiebreaker at No. 5 singles. Cochran won the first set 6-1, but Filberth got the second 6-3. Filberth got off to a fast start in the superbreaker and won 10-5.

Freshman Preethi Subramanian, playing in her first singles match for the Lady Rebels, topped Jayhawk Stephanie Smith, 6-3, 6-2 at No. 6 singles to finish off the scoring for Ole Miss.

"We are proud of Mimi coming back from 4-2 down and only losing one other game," Beyers said. "Preethi played well for her first match in singles. I was hoping we would get the sweep, but the Kansas player (Filberth) stepped up her game in the second and third sets against Carlin."

Ole Miss will look to improve on their 4-0 record against the Wildcats, on Sunday. The No. 1 singles match will feature K-State's Maria Rosenberg, ranked No. 109 against Carlotti.
