OXFORD, Miss. - The 51st-ranked Ole Miss women's tennis team dominated Tennessee Tech 6-1 Thursday afternoon at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center to improve to 9-4 overall. The Lady Rebels will now take the weekend off before preparing to host Tennessee and Georgia next weekend in SEC action.

Ole Miss eased to 8-2 and 8-0 wins at Nos. 3 and 2 doubles to take the opening point. Sophomore Ilona Somers and freshman Mimi Renaudin posted their second consecutive shutout at No. 2 doubles. At No. 1 doubles, Chloe Carlotti and Virginia Tomatis, ranked No. 34, fell behind 3-0, but came back to win 8-6 and move their record to 11-2 at the top spot. Ole Miss improved to 9-1 this season when they win the doubles point

In singles, Ole Miss came out firing and never let up, getting quick victories on courts 1, 5 and 3 for the victory. Carlotti, ranked No. 46, needed just 40 minutes to take out TTU's Alet Boonzaaier, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles. The two-time All-American is now 10-3 at No. 1 singles.

Renaudin improved to 9-3 in dual matches, 8-2 at No. 5 singles with a 6-0, 6-1 win on court five. Nika Koukhartchouk wrapped up the win by downing Golden Eaglette Melissa Cansado 6-0, 6-1 at the No. 3 position. She is now 8-3 in dual matches, and 3-1 at No. 3 singles.

"Whenever you play out of conference in between SEC weekends, it's always tough to maintain that level of intensity," head coach Mark Beyers said. "We wanted to play well to have confidence going into Tennessee and Georgia next weekend. The team is feeling good about themselves and the way they are playing. There is so much parity in college tennis this year with a lot of teams beating higher ranked teams. We are going to try and see if we can become one of those teams that can upset a higher ranked team."

At No. 2 singles, Somers also blanked her opponent, Tech's Marina Tasheva, to add to the win total. Tomatis finished off Margot Carter on court four for the Lady Rebels' final point.

Tennessee Tech (1-2) got its only point when Maya Russinova won a third set supertiebreaker against Lady Rebel freshman Carlin Cochran at No. 6 singles. Cochran, playing in her first singles match since Feb. 4, lost the first set 6-3, but rebounded to get the second 6-0. The two battled back and forth in the tiebreaker, before Russinova won 13-11.

The Lady Rebels, who are now 8-1 at home this season, will be off until hosting No. 23 Tennessee and No. 2 Georgia next weekend at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center. Ole Miss will square off against the Lady Vols March 25 at 4 p.m.
