Men's Golf Wraps Up Day One Of SEC Championships

ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. - The Ole Miss men's golf team struggled to a first-round 311 Friday at the challenging par 70 Seaside Course of the Sea Island Golf Club, standing in 12th place after the first day of the Southeastern Conference Championships.
High scores were the theme of the day as the Kentucky Wildcats hold the top spot heading into Saturday's round two after shooting a 10-over 290 on Friday. Florida is four strokes back, while Alabama, Auburn, South Carolina and Tennessee rounding out the top five.
Only two golfers broke par on the day, with Richard Scott of Georgia leading the field after a two-under 68 and John Holmes of Kentucky in second with a one-under 69. Matt Wells of Kentucky was the only other player at par or better after carding an even-par 70.
Senior Jordan Dempsey and sophomore Brice Bailey led the way for Ole Miss in round one, both carding five-over 75's to enter Saturday's round tied for 21st.
Sophomore Kyle Ellis is four strokes back of the Rebels' top two at 79, while sophomore Callum Macaulay and senior Lucas Boyd struggled to an 82 and 85, respectively.
Play will continue with Saturday's round two, as players adjust to the difficult seaside course. Live scoring is available throughout the tournament at www.Golfstat.com.
