OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss volleyball team will play an exciting and challenging schedule for the 2005 season, highlighted by some of the nation's top teams on the home slate, head coach Joe Getzin announced on Monday.

The Rebels, who compete in the tough Southeastern Conference, will play a 29 match regular season schedule featuring 14 home matches. Ole Miss will also host the annual Magnolia Invitational.

"We are very excited about the level of competition we will face on our schedule before we get to the grueling conference schedule," Getzin said. "It's going to be a good challenge for a young team. We are excited to be able to bring some of the nation's best teams to Oxford for our fans, especially with the Magnolia Invitational early in the year."

The Rebels open the season with a match against Louisiana Monroe on August 27, before taking to the road to compete at the Houston Tournament at the University of Houston. There, Ole Miss will take on the host team of Houston, Miami (Fla.) and Arkansas State.

Ole Miss returns home for the Magnolia Invitational the following weekend (Sept. 9-10), when the Rebels will host four teams in a two day event. Ole Miss will face Lamar and traditional national-power Texas Longhorns on Friday and conclude the tournament with matches against Lipscomb and North Carolina State on Saturday.

The Rebels will continue home play with a match against Arkansas State on Sept. 13, before taking off on the road again at the South Alabama Tournament the weekend of Sept. 16-17. Ole Miss will take on North Florida on Friday night and face Southern Mississippi and host South Alabama on Saturday.

Southeastern Conference play will begin for the Rebels after that with Ole Miss opening league competition at home against Georgia (9/23) and conference and national power Florida (9/25).

The Rebels then hit the road for weekend match-ups with defending SEC Tournament Champions Tennessee (9/30) and South Carolina (10/2). Ole Miss will return home for matches with Alabama (10/7) and Auburn (10/9) before taking on a grueling five match road trip in the middle of the season.

During the five match road trip the Rebels will face Arkansas (10/14), LSU (10/16), Mississippi State (10/19) and Alabama (10/23), before closing it out with a non-conference match-up at the Memphis (10/26).

Ole Miss will then play four straight at home against Kentucky (10/30), Mississippi State (11/2), LSU (11/4) and Arkansas (11/6). The Rebels then close out the season on the road at Florida (11/11) and Georgia (11/13).

All home matches are played at the Gillom Sports Complex.
