ATHENS, Ga. - Ole Miss women's tennis senior Chloe Carlotti advanced to the third round of the NCAA Singles Championships Tuesday, defeating Notre Dame's Catrina Thompson in three sets at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.

Carlotti, took the first set 6-2, but Thompson rallied to win a second set tiebreaker, 8-6 to force a decisive third set. In the third set, Carlotti trailed 0-2 and 15-40, but staved on the break point and then won five straight games to win the set 6-2 and move on to the round of 16 for the second time in her career.

By virtue of reaching the third round at the NCAAs, Carlotti earned All-America honors for the third time in her career and first at Ole Miss. She earned the distinction as a freshman and sophomore at Fresno State before transferring to Ole Miss.

Carlotti (24-12) became the seventh Ole Miss player to earn All-America accolades and the first since Mira Radu in 2003.

"We are proud of Chloe for winning today and earning All-America honors," head coach Mark Beyers said. "It's a great accomplishment to finish her career as an All-American at two schools. I would guess that not many players have ever done that."

"This was one of my goals at the beginning of the season," Carlotti said. "I am so excited to advance to the next round, but also because it means I can now say I earned All-America honors at Ole Miss as well as at Fresno State. Hopefully I can play well tomorrow and advance even further."

Carlotti, who knocked off a 9-16 seed in the first round, will now face the No. 5 seed, Jennifer Magley of Florida, in the third round. Magley is one of only four top eight seeds remaining in the 64-player draw. In their previous meeting in the regular season dual match, Magley won 6-0, 6-4.

In the doubles, Carlotti and junior Virginia Tomatis appeared to be well on their way to advancing to the second round, leading 5-2 in the first set against Kendall Cline and Aniela Mojzis (5-8) of North Carolina. The UNC team would come back to force a tiebreaker, ultimately holding off four set points to take the set 7-6(5). Carlotti and Tomatis built a 4-0 lead in the second set, but the Tarheel duo rallied again to win the set 7-5 and advance to the second round.

"We lost a match that we shouldn't have," head coach Mark Beyers said. "We had chances to close out the first set and couldn't convert, and then we had a huge lead in the second and couldn't hang on."
