OXFORD, Miss. - After spending the morning working on the practice fields, the Ole Miss football team wrapped up two-a-days Wednesday with an afternoon scrimmage inside Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.
The Rebels spent the bulk of the second practice with ones versus ones and twos versus twos.
"I am really pleased with the players' performance today," said head coach Ed Orgeron. "We settled things down and got into our base offense and defense. We keep things simple and just let the players go out and play."
Searching for consistency from the running backs position, Orgeron was happy with the unit's production in the second workout of the day.
"I am pleased with how the offense ran the ball," he said. "We wanted to test out some different things, and Jamal Pittman and Brandon Jacobs really came through. We wanted to find out who our tailback is going to be, and I thought we did that."
Freshman linebacker Quentin Taylor also made an impression on Orgeron running with the first team defense.
"He is very quick and really tough," Orgeron said. "We thought he was one of the top players we recruited last year, and he is learning the linebacker spot quickly. He is physical enough to play in the SEC this year."
Ole Miss takes to the practice field again on Thursday afternoon in preparation for Saturday's scrimmage, which is followed by "Meet The Rebels Day" activities in The Grove at 1:30 p.m.
