OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss Rebel football team continued preseason work on Thursday on the practice fields adjacent to Vaught-Hemingway Stadium. The Rebel defense stood out to head coach Ed Orgeron, in the afternoon work.
"The defense had a good day," Orgeron said. "We had a little competition on first down and the defense won, 8-7."
Orgeron and the Rebel coaching staff also saw positives from yesterday's scrimmage work after having a chance to review the film.
"The running game has really came along," Orgeron said. "The offensive line did a great job of picking up blocks, and Jamal Pittman and Brandon Jacobs ran the ball hard. I also like the plays we called to use Taye Biddle's speed.
"Patrick Willis had a heck of a scrimmage yesterday," Orgeron said. "He was all over the field. The whole linebacker unit is really coming along. Garry Pack is close to winning his starting spot back. I am proud of the way he has competed."
At the conclusion of Thursday's practice Orgeron announced that sophomore linebacker Marquis McBeath is no longer a member of the team.
Ole Miss takes to the practice fields again on Friday for one afternoon practice. The Rebels will also scrimmage at 8:45 a.m. on Saturday, which will be followed by "Meet The Rebels Day" activities in The Grove at 1:30p.m.
