OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss opened the 2005 season with a strong statement from several players as three Rebels notched double digit kills, two hitting over .500 for the match, as Ole Miss (1-0) defeated Louisiana-Monroe (0-1) by a score of 3-0 (30-15, 30-22, 30-23) on Saturday.

Jaclyn Toohey backed her up with 12 kills and no errors on 22 swings, as she notched a .545 attack percentage to lead the Rebels in efficiency. Nikki Hill rounded out the Rebels in double-digit scoring as she notched 11 kills on the night.
"We came out and had a solid all-around performance today," said Ole Miss head coach Joe Getzin. "I am proud of the way our outsides attacked the ball today, and we got great play from the libero and setter positions."
Ashleigh Shear led the Rebels with 38 assists on the afternoon and 12 digs, while Tara Langley added 10 digs.
The Rebels stormed out in the first game, grabbing the lead and not looking back as Ole Miss took the first game 30-15.
Ole Miss then grabbed the second game, but saw more of a fight from the visiting Indians of Louisiana-Monroe. Every time the Rebels would make a run, the Indians would come right back before Ole Miss eventually claimed the second game 30-22.
The third game sealed the match for the Rebels as Ole Miss came back from a one-point deficit early to take the game and the match with a 30-23 win in the final stanza.
Ole Miss will return to action at the Houston Invitational on Sept. 2, when the Rebels will take on the hosting Houston Cougars at 7 p.m. at the Yeoman Fieldhouse in Houston, Texas.
The Rebels will then face Miami and Arkansas State in the second day of action on Saturday.
