OXFORD, Miss. - The Ed Orgeron era at Ole Miss continues here Thursday afternoon when returning players and newcomers come together for the first time to comprise the 2005 football squad.
"There's a lot of excitement around here," Orgeron said. "We need to remain focused and have a great football camp."
Orgeron, who is in his first year as a head football coach after 20 years as an assistant, took control of the Ole Miss program last December 16 when he was named to replace David Cutcliffe. He is the 35th head coach in the history of Ole Miss football.
Players must be checked in by 3:00 p.m. on Thursday as the remainder of the day and Friday will be devoted to physicals, compliance education, and academics.
Practice will begin on Saturday with the varsity working in the morning and the freshmen in the afternoon.
Ole Miss will begin the 2005 season on Monday afternoon, September 5, against the University of Memphis Tigers. Kickoff is set for 3:30 in Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium in Memphis and the game will be shown nationally by ESPN.
